SharePoint 142010 predicted release

With the recent announcements regarding SharePoint 2010 I have edited and opened this post.

Microsoft have announced that SharePoint 2010 will be entering a technical preview in the third quarter of 2009 (Likely to be inline with the SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas 19th October 2009)  and will release to manufacturing in the first half of 2010.

Microsoft Partners on the TAP and PAP programs already have access to the Beta’s, however they are not able to disclose anything other than the below:

  • Improved and unified navigation for central administration
  • Navigation based on the ribbon
  • SharePoint 2010 will support Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safar
  • Will only install on a x64 Architecture using Windows 2008 and SQL 2008
  • New feature called Web edit allows site owners to edit their sites almost as if they were typical Office documents
  • New Offline Software (improvements on Grove)

Keep an eye on http://sharepoint.microsoft.com for more information.
